Week 71: Finding Santa and A Few New People to Teach

December 18, 2017

This week was great! We had zone conference, found a lot of people to teach and I am just loving the work here!

Zone Conference was awesome! We had it on Tuesday and it was a Christmas one so after a spiritual part we celebrated the Holidays for a bit. We had an ugly sweater contest and then a white elephant gift exchange. I ended up with a ceramic fish that is now hanging above my desk. It was awesome and great being able to spend some with some great people.

We also had our ward Christmas Party and that went really well, our ward is so cool! So I got to meet a lot more of the ward and see Santa!!!!

Jonah with Santa!

This week we found 5 new people to teach, which is good because we need to get busy! We found a lot of older youth and younger adults. Our mission president has asked us to be working more with that age group so that is awesome!

It was great because on Sunday we met with Ryker and his family. He is the nine year old whose family is being reactivated. We taught him about the Plan of Salvation and he is going to be baptized on January 27th! So that is awesome and we are excited about that.

Other than that I am just getting excited for Christmas! It came up so quick. Anyways things are going well and I'm having a blast.

Week 70: New Area & New Companion

December 11, 2017

Well this was an exciting week! I came into Falcon area Tuesday, and am loving it so far! My new companion is Elder Davis and he is a great guy. Falcon is a super cool area and ward and I am excited to be here!

Elder Davis & Elder Morgan

This new area is so cool! It is my favorite area so far. The place we live is huge! President Stevenson called it the Taj Mahal of the mission. It is brand new and has 3 bedrooms and a fire place and stuff! So that is super nice and we drive a new Tacoma, so we are really spoiled here haha. Falcon is a great ward though, they haven't had missionaries for about a year and were so excited for us to be there. The work is hopefully going to pick up soon. Almost no one from the area book is still here so we are starting from scratch but have a few people we are working with who I will talk about below. I thought I was going to the city this last transfer because I haven't had an area yet where I have been in a big city. I've always been in the boonies, and then I got here and it is a really rural area again. So that is good. I think this is the one area I have served in that I could actually live in after the mission.

So the training meeting on Tuesday went really well and it got me excited to train a new missionary. I was assigned to be companions with Elder Davis and it has been awesome so far! Elder Davis is from Fort Collins and is a great missionary. He is excited to be here and is a hard worker. He is doing a 2 transfer trial mission so I will only have him for one transfer, unfortunately, because he has to experience transfers. But he is an awesome guy. He likes reading and has a strong testimony.

(Parent Note: 2-Transfer Missions are fairly new. Basically, new missionaries who may have challenges with the stress and rigors of Missionary life are called on a Mission to a fairly local area for 3 months, or 2 transfers. Once they complete the 2-Transfers, they, along with their companions and Mission President determine if they should continue onto a full-time mission for the remaining 21 months, or they will be honorably released from their service. It is a great way for those young men who may have challenges to have the opportunity to serve.)

Falcon is an awesome area! I love it here! Meeting everyone in the Ward yesterday was great and it reminds me a lot of my ward at home. Falcon is a nicer area of Eastern Colorado Springs and is about 20 minutes outside of actual Colorado Springs. It is a smaller town and I will get to work in the rural areas a lot of the time. The Ward hasn't had missionaries for a while so they were so excited for us to be working in their Ward. I am excited to be here and to get the work moving.

We have seen so many miracles the past few days. Our book with all the records of people the missionaries used to teach is not very helpful because a lot of the people have moved. So we got here and didn't have anyone to teach but luckily the Bishop gave us about 10 people that we could go stop by and that gave us a few people to teach. It was so cool though because one of the ladies on the list is a less active lady who just moved here who has a nine year old girl (her name is Rain) who she wants to be baptized. So that was someone right off the bat that we could start teaching. Then one of the evening we were getting ward list from the clerk and he told us about a family that was recently reactivated and had a kid (Ryker) who might be nine and wasn't baptized. So the mom was actually in the building that night and her sons birthday was that day and she said that she wanted him to be baptized as well, so that was another person we could teach!

We have also been able to do a good amount of finding and have been led to some great people. So hopefully the work will continue to progress. Elder Davis and I are really trying hard to have the Spirit to guide us and so far it is going well. The Lord will provide!

Anyways things are going well and I am having a blast and I am grateful to be doing the work of the Lord!
Love,
Elder Morgan

Week 69: Leaving Alamosa

December 4, 2017

This week has been awesome! It was my last week in Alamosa and I will miss being here so much. Elder Lewis and Elder Talanoa are some of my best friends and I have loved serving with them, I will miss them! But this week we were able to do some exchanges with our zone leaders and teach some awesome people!

So I am being transferred to Falcon and I have the opportunity to train again! Falcon is a ward in the High Plains Stake and I am so excited to serve there. It hasn't had missionaries for over a year so we will be able to start the work there from scratch. I am sad to leave but it will be good to have a change. (They haven't had missionaries for so long apparently because there were not enough missionaries, housing and not enough member support.)

I was able to be with Elder Powell on exchanges for a day and that was awesome because we were in 4th ward and I was able to say bye to a few members that I love in that ward. Elder Powell is awesome and I learned a lot from him.

Other than that it was just a good week, it felt like it went by so quick because it was the last week here. We found 13 new people to teach so that was a great way to finish it off. We watched the Christmas Devotional and it was so awesome! I loved the speakers and songs and it was a great start to Christmas.

Also Elder Lewis and Elder Talanoa are training a new missionary together! But anyways Hope everyone has a great week and reads their scriptures and #LightstheWorld by remembering the true meaning of Christmas, Christ!

Elder Morgan
