Week 105: The Final Email

August 13, 2018

Well looks like this is it! I will be home on Thursday and still can't believe it! It had been such a great experience serving a mission, I am so glad that I chose to come out here to serve the Lord. There are so many things I will be grateful for from my mission but just to list a few: I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to see the gospel change peoples lives, the many ways that I have changed as a person through Jesus Christ, the strength that has been added to my testimony, the people I have been able to meet out here, the fun times I have had, gaining a stronger love of studying the scriptures and praying, and the list could go on!

I will just finish off by sharing my testimony with you all that I really do know that living the Gospel is the happiest way to live, I know that the Lord wants to bless us so much and that He loves us. I know that there are prophets once again on earth and that the Book of Mormon is true. Most of all, I know that Jesus Christ has come and suffered and died for each one of us. Worthy is the Lamb!

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Week 104: The Weatherfords and a Unique Young Men's Activity...

August 6, 2018

Well hey everyone! Things have been great over here in Colorado this week. Can't believe how time is flying. This week some of the highlights were being able to do service at a Fair and Rodeo in Castle Rock, having a great lesson with the Weatherfords and then just being able to work hard in the service of the Lord!

The Fair and Rodeo come to Castle Rock every year I guess and they have a big rodeo and carnival for a few days. We were "greeters" which meant that we just talked to everyone and asked if they needed anything or directed them to different places. We got to see the mutton busting event which was awesome.

The Weatherfors are doing really well. They are some of the only people we are able to regularly meet with and they are so awesome. They also love us so that is fun. We read from the Book of Mormon with them and they have been reading and praying everyday this week. They are working hard to prepare for the temple!

Oh also for a young mens activity, Elder Talanoa taught us all how to clean up a chicken! They eat everything in Tonga. He said if you don't get the guts when they kill a cow or chicken in Tonga then you are missing out haha. So we ate to heart and the stomach and Elder Talanoa ate the "noodles" (intestines), that was a little too much for me though haha.

Elder Talanoa Teaching How To Clean A Chicken

Jonah with the finished product!
Other than that we have been doing a lot of door knocking and trying to find some people that are interested that we can teach. It is funny because now I kind of just expect people to drop off the face of the planet after we have these awesome lessons with them. Like Jarrett and Kristina we haven't had any contact with after some amazing lessons with them haha. But I am sure they will come around someday soon.

Things are going well though, can't complain! Hope everyone will have an awesome week and keep the commandments!

Elder Morgan

Week 103: Life is Good!

July 30, 2018

Hey everyone! This was another great week with a lot of great stuff that happened. Elder Talanoa was sick most days of the week in the afternoons so I got to catch up on some devotionals and mormon messages.

The Weatherfords are doing really well! We had another lesson with them and they are going to be getting their patriarchal blessings soon. Bishop interviewed them so they are ready to go. Next step will be to help Brother Weatherford get the Melchizedek Priesthood and then for them to go through the temple and be sealed. So things are going well there.

This week we had some training for some service that I am excited for in the upcoming week. It is for the Fair and Rodeo that will be in Castle Rock. So we will be taking tickets, greeting and working at the information booths. That is going to be next weekend and should be a lot of fun!

Other than that we didn't do too much because Elder Talanoa was feeling sick most days this week, bummer but it will be better next week. Still just having fun out here and loving the work. Nothing to complain about. I definitely feel like the Lord has been opening up my eyes these past few weeks and helping me become more mature and to learn more spiritual truths so that is great too. Life is good!

I got to play the accordion at some service we do at a donation place

Week 102: Tristan and Brooklyn's Baptism and Final Zone Conference

July 23, 2018

Hey everyone! This was an amazing week! We had Zone Conference, a few sick days and a baptism. So it was a great week. We also found some awesome people to teach.

Zone Conference was great as always. We talked about faith in Jesus Christ and how we missionaries and members need to have more faith in Jesus. It was really uplifting. We also talked about different ways to find new people to teach. Also there were some updates to Preach my Gospel. One of my favorites is that the term "investigators" is no longer what we use. Now we just say "people we are teaching" or "people with interest." I always thought saying "investigators was super weird so I am really glad they changed that. Then at the end of Zone Conference I gave my departing testimony and that went well.

Then Elder Talanoa was sick for a few days so we were in the house and I read lots of scriptures, watched lots of mormon messages and just chilled out.

The highlight of the week was definitely the baptism of Tristan (9) and Brooklyn (8) Carboni. Their Dad baptized them and it just went really well. Somehow, I ended up conducting the baptismal service which was pretty fun. Then on Sunday they were confirmed and I was able to confirm Brooklyn and that was really cool. It was an awesome baptism!

Other exciting news is that we got a referral for this guy named Jarrett and he is so cool! He is 29 and he never been very religious but wants to learn more about what we believe and wants to commit to living it if it will help him. He doesn't believe that Jesus is divine and our Savior yet but we had a really good conversation about it yesterday. More to come on Jarrett.

Great week though and I am loving the work out here, thanks for all the support!

Week 101: 31 Days Left...Baptisms of Vera, Tristan and Brooklyn, and more people to teach!

July 16, 2018

Well man this was such a great week! We found a lot of people and just had fun doing the Lord's work. We also got some great news that Vera from Falcon ward is going to be baptized on this Saturday, and I might be able to go to it!

We did a lot of service this week because a family is moving to a house right next to where we are staying so they enlisted us to help move all the heavy stuff. It was also really cool because and awesome family from the San Luis Valley came up to Denver for a concert and were able to take Elder Talanoa and I out for lunch. It was great being able to catch up with them.

Tristan and his sister Brooklyn are getting baptized this Saturday and I am pretty excited for that. Brooklyn wants me to confirm her so that will be real cool to do. They are such a good family and it has been fun working with them.

The Lord definitely provided a lot of people for us to teach this week. We found a lot of really solid potentials who we have return appointments with that I am really excited about. Then we also got this referral for Jarrett, who lives in some apartments in our area. So we stopped by and he invited us in and we talked to him about the Book of Mormon and the church and Jesus and he said "I've been interested in learning about mormons but I don't just want to learn about it, I want to be a part of it if it is something that will help me in my life." And we said we could help him with that! So we will be meeting with him this week as well.

Anyways things are just going really well and I am loving it out here! Just keep on keeping the commandments and everything will work out!

Elder Morgan

Funny Story....Warning...not for the faint of heart and bunny lovers....

So one of the days this week Elder Talanoa and I are coming in for lunch after we went tracting for a couple hours, and we have always joked about getting a rabbit or squirrel to eat because in Tonga, Elder Talanoa would do that stuff all the time. So on the way home, Elder Talanoa grabs some rocks and says he is going to go get us a bunny to eat in the backyard. So I go out with him and he finds a rabbit and nails it in the side but it didn't die, so he goes and grabs a stick and throws it at the rabbit and then goes and grabs it and hits it in the head a couple times and kills it. Then we just had a dead bunny and I am cracking up and just like what the heck just happened?!?!?! So he then shows me how to get all the hair off and gut it. So now it is in our fridge, and we are going to cook it today hahaha. Ya it was quite the experience. He wants me to come to Tonga with him really bad and was saying that this was training for what we will do in Tonga haha.

Week 100: 4th of July Breakfast, Daunte's Baptism and Surviving a Bike Accident

July 9, 2018

Hi everyone! What a great week! It was pretty dang busy, actually probably our busiest week since I have been here! With the 4th of July, transfers and all the other stuff going on it went by way too quick.

Transfers happened on Tuesday and I got Elder Talanoa back. It is just like old times. It has been nice to not have any awkward first couple days with a new companion because we already know each other so well. Couldn't think of a better companion for the last transfer!

4th of July was awesome! We started off with our ward's breakfast and I got to cook Aeblskivers! They are this little Danish pancake ball thing that are pretty good. This guy in our ward, who is super cool, apparently cooks them every 4th of July but was out of town, so he trained me how to make them. It turned out pretty well! Then we went to this park for a celebration for a little bit, then to a couple BBQs and got to watch some fireworks from our window in the house. It was a great day!

Cooking Aeblskivers for 4th of July!
This week we got to teach the Weatherfords and Tristan again and they are both doing really well. Love them to death! We also helped out this part member family with some service around their yard and they are awesome! Things are going well in the area!

A definite highlight of the week was the baptism of Daunte! He is Frejia's cousin who lives with her down in Alamosa. Daunte sat through all the lessons that Frejia went through and he is so awesome! He turned 8 and has an aunt in Castle Rock so was baptized up here. So I was able to be a witness and stand in the confirmation and see a lot of people from the old area. It was so fun to see them all again. I was with Elder Nelson for most of the time down in the Valley. He is up here in my district, so it was awesome to see them with him here too.

Elder Nelson, Frejia and Daunte

Daunte's Baptism

Frejia and Elder Nelson
So a couple nights ago we were riding back home on our bikes and are going down this good sized hill. Elder Talanoa was in front and thought that he missed the turn. So he slowed down and started to turn around and went right in front of me, so I slam on the brakes and skid into him at probably 25-30 miles per hour and did a front flip off my bike. I slid for a little bit and I saw my bike flying through the air and land 5 or 6 yards in front of me on the handle bars and seat. All I got was a small scrape on my elbow and no bike damage or anything. Elder Talanoa's back wheel got bent too. All things considered, we definitely had some angels watching out for us to come out with that little damage! Pretty cool!

Anyways hope everyone had a fun week!

Surprisingly this was only my second or third time seeing weed plants here in CO, so I asked if I could get a pic with it haha!

Week 99: Last Transfer!

July 2, 2018

Wow what an awesome week! I am loving it out here! Another transfer has come and gone and now. Elder Niu is being transferred and my new companion is none other than Elder Talanoa!!! I trained him in Alamosa almost a year ago and now he will be finishing off my mission! Can't believe I am starting my last transfer and I am so excited to be with Elder Talanoa for it. He is a really funny guy so we will have a lot of fun together.

Jonah and Elder Niu

This was just a great week though, we are having lots of good stuff happening! First off, the Tristan and his family are doing so well! They are the family who was inactive for a few years and is now coming back to church and getting Tristan baptized. They are so cool and there are a few new things on them. So they have decided to push up Tristan's baptism to the 21 of July and also they will baptize their other kid, Brooklyn who is 8 years old! So that is awesome and I am really excited about that.

The other exciting thing of the week is the Weatherfords. They are so cool! We go over weekly and help with their family history for a bit and then teach them a lesson. They really like us and always give us a bag of candy before we leave haha they are pretty much another set of grandparents. They are shooting to go to the temple soon though, so that will be awesome!

Anyways things are just going great and I am loving it out here! It was so hot though, one of the days this week it was 105 out, man that was hot but it was still a good day. Alright hope everyone has an awesome week and keeps the commandments!

Week 98: The Weatherfords

June 25, 2018

Hello family and friends! This was a great week, couldn't have been better! We found a few more people to teach this week and I really just had fun being out and about. It is definitely starting to get pretty warm, lots of sweat, that's all I will say about that haha. It feels good to work hard and especially to work hard for an eternal purpose.

The first new and exciting development was being able to teach the Weatherfords. They are a couple in their mid 80's who decided that they need to come back to church. They haven't been in quite a while but Brother Weatherford especially felt that he needed to get the Melchizedek Priesthood and be sealed to his wife. So we are running through the lessons with them and they are so cool. They also really like us so that makes it fun. They always give us some candy when we leave haha.

Also yesterday we found a new guy to teach. His name is Alexis and he is a young guy that we tracted into and he took a Book of Mormon and said that we could come back and teach his family. So hopefully that will go well when we come back and teach him.

Other than that nothing too new is happening. It is the last week of the transfer so there will probably be some changes in the next week.

Elder Morgan

Week 97: Mission Tour with Elder Martinez

June 18, 2018

Wow this week has been so awesome! We had our mission tour with Elder Martinez and just had a pretty bumpin week, good times.

Mission tour was great! Elder Martinez of the 70 came with his wife and spoke to us and it was so cool! He and his wife spoke to us about finding more people to teach and about how you can't be too obedient. There is no such thing as a "too obedient" missionary. All in all it was very inspiring and made me want to be better! They were a very funny couple so it made the conference a lot of fun.

Biggest news of the week is that my brother Eli was assigned to serve in the Sierra Leone Freetown mission in Africa!! I am beyond proud of and excited for him! He will be the best missionary Africa has ever seen!

Also wanted to say Happy Father's Day to all the daddys out there! Not to brag but I have the best Dad in the world and owe everything I am to my wonderful parents. I really did win the parents lottery!

Week 96: 22 Months!

June 11, 2018

This was a great week! We had specialized training for our smart phones and facebook. We also did a lot of finding this week and were able to make some awesome connections with people.

Specialized training was great. We learned more about how to use our phones in proselyting and how to transfer our paper area book over to the phones. We also were trained on Facebook and how to use that effectively. We have Facebook to keep in contact with investigators and don't go on the actual Facebook site too much. Mostly we will just use messenger with our investigators. Also we can post uplifting messages once or twice a month to help spread the gospel. It will be a great resource!

Texas Roadhouse after training
It was really cool this week because on our way to district meeting we started talking to a lady we saw on the street and she took a book of Mormon. Then her sister came out and we had actually talked to her about a month ago and said that we could help them take out a tree stump. In there yard later that day and that they would feed us dinner. So that evening we went and cut down a stump and had dinner with their family. They were super nice but unfortunately they are moving to Texas so we won't get a chance to teach them.

Other than that, not too much has been different this week. Just having fun with the work and all that is going on. Thanks for all the support and love!

Week 94: Interviews and Ending in Park Meadows (probably)

June 4, 2018

Well, just another great week! It went by so quick. We had interviews this week and did some fun service and had some great lessons. The weather is also perfect here so there is nothing to complain about!

Interviews with President went really well. He practically told us that Elder Niu will be leaving next transfer and I will be finishing my mission in this area, which is awesome! Anything could happen but I am pretty dang sure that I will finish here, which is awesome, I love serving in this area.

After Interviews with the Mission President
We did service for a couple people this week. We started by helping Carol with her garden and we have a really good relationship with her. We have been able to talk a lot about religion and have read the Book of Mormon together. We set up a time for this week to tour the church building to maybe help her want to come a little bit more. We also helped a member's neighbor dig out some of his yard this week and had a good conversation with him. We will have to stop by again sometime soon.

Other than that we are just plugging away and loving it. There are a lot of potential people to teach here and we are going to go around this week and try to teach some of them pretty soon here.

Anyways, hope everyone has an awesome week and reads the scriptures!

Week 93: Carol, Tristan and Facebook

May 28, 2018

Wow, this week was awesome! We have made some good progress with the people we are teaching and were able to do a lot of finding and some fun service too. We also got Facebook so anyone can look me up and add me if you want, I am just under Jonah Morgan.

So we are still helping Carol with her garden every week and then we eat lunch with her and have a lesson. It is pretty awesome and we are really trying to help her to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. So hopefully we will see some more progress there pretty soon.

The other family that we are working with is Tristan's, he is the 9 year old whose family has recently been reactivated. I love their family, they are so cool! They have us over for dinner a lot and to teach their kids. So it is a lot of fun being with them.

Other than that, I am just loving the work out here and having a ton of fun. Thanks for all the love and support!

Week 92: Smartphones, Service and Devil's Head

May 22, 2018

This was a great week! I am staying another transfer with Elder Niu in Park Meadows and am excited to be here for another. This week we started some new service and were able to start putting things into our smart phones.

Our new service is at the Arc Donation Station and it is awesome. We take and sort people's donations. The lady in charge of it is super cool and likes us a lot. So we are having fun doing that.

With the new smart phones, we now have to log in all of the data from our area books into our smart phones and it is really really slow! So we do a little bit everyday but man I hope it doesn't take too long. It will be really nice when all of it is put in because we will be able to be much more efficient in the work.

Today we went on this awesome hike called "Devil's Head. " It is a fireman's watch tower that is still active. An old guy just stays up there for a few months in a cabin over summer and looks out for the fires. So we got to talk to him and it was really cool learning a bit about his job.

Things are going just great here though, we are working hard to find new people to teach and have a lot of potentials. So hopefully some of them will pull through and feel the Spirit bringing them to the Gospel. Anyways thank you all for the support and love, I love you all!

Week 91: Being Diligent, Faithful and Obedient, the Lord Will Provide

May 7, 2018

What a good week! I am loving it out here, Park Meadows is such an awesome ward. The members are great, the work is great, everything is great! We finally got some people to teach too, so that is pretty exciting. I have a strong testimony that when we are being diligent, faithful and obedient, the Lord will provide.

So the first cool thing that happened this week was getting a call from Carol! So last week we met her and gave her a Book of Mormon and told her we could help serve if she needed anything and she said she would give us a call. People always say they will call but it has not actually happened to me on my mission until this week haha! So we get a call and she says, "So how does this work, do I set up an appointment or do you guys just come over or what?" And of course we went over as soon as we could and helped her in her backyard and had an awesome discussion on Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon and lots of other religious things. So now we have a standing appointment with her and it is awesome, pretty excited about that!

The other cool thing was when we were riding bikes and I saw this guy in his yard and started talking to him and he said some sisters had given him and Book of Mormon a year ago and he wanted to learn more. We set up an appointment and started teaching him and he is super cool. His name is Diego and he is 20 years old.

We were also tracting this week and acccidently ran into a member and she had us in and showed us her pet tarantula. I got to hold him! I have a picture but will have to send it next week, so cool.

We moved member homes in the ward so our new members are the Beauchamps and even though I will miss the Jones, the Beauchamps are equally awesome. My new address is 13554 Sirus Dr., Lone Tree, CO 80124.

The Jones Family!

Anyways, things are going well and I am working hard out here, love the Lord and am excited to be doing His work.

Week 90: Parker Task Force & A Fireside

April 30, 2018

Well things are going pretty well here in Park Meadows! We have done lots of door knocking and have worked with with a lot of members. A couple lessons we had this week cancelled but that is ok because the weather was great and we were able to talk to a lot of really cool people.

One fun thing we do weekly is go to the Parker Task Force and do service. It is pretty awesome because it is technically out of our mission and we do it with some missionaries from the Denver North mission. So I get to feel a little rebellious for a couple hours even though it is approved haha. But we go and do inventory and stock food for the pantry there so it is a lot of fun.

We also got to go to a Work of Salvation fireside that was really awesome. It was a stake fireside where a couple recent converts speak and tell the stories of their conversion. They talked for a little bit about how we can become better member missionaries. It was really uplifting and a learned a lot about missionary work.

Other than that, things are just good, loving it out here and working hard. Thanks for all the support and love. Love you all! Sorry no pictures this week!

Week 89: Knocking More Doors

April 23, 2018

Hey everyone! This was another great week and I am loving serving in the Park Meadows ward. I am finally getting a feel for the area with all the streets and getting to know all the ward members and people of the area.

We did a lot of tracting this week and placed a ton of copies of the Book of Mormon. We also found a new investigator who is so cool! Her name is Israel and she is so prepared for the Gospel. We knocked on her door and she was so happy we were there because she was going through a "faith crisis" and was having a really hard time with spiritual things so she saw it as a sign from God that we came to her door. When we gave her a copy of the Book of Mormon she was so grateful and couldn't believe that we were giving it to her for free haha. She was really nice though and we have a lesson with her this week so hopefully it will go well.

Other than that I am having fun getting to know the members of the ward. The missionaries have been teaching all of the youth in the ward the missionary discussions for a bit so it has been fun getting to know a couple of them. The Jones, who we live with, are so awesome too, I am having a lot of fun staying with them.

I am just loving being out here and working hard to spread the good news about Jesus Christ! I am learning so much about the gospel and my testimony of Jesus is growing everyday. Hope everyone has a great week!

The wonderful view of Denver behind me!

Week 88: New Area & New Companion

April 16, 2018

Well this week had flown on by! Park Meadows Ward is awesome, I love it! It looks so much like home and the weather has been great and the ward is cool, nothing to complain about haha. We have done a ton of door knocking this week and met with a few people. It has been a great start to my time here in Park Meadows.

Elder Niu & Elder Morgan
My new companion's name is Elder Niu and he is from Salt Lake City, UT. He is a great guy and we are having fun together. We live with some awesome members up here, the Jones. They are so nice and I am excited to stay with them. it is my first time living with members and I was a little worried that I wouldn't like it but I was happily surprised.

We aren't working with really anyone haha so we have been able to go an knock on a lot of doors and have been talking to everyone! We handed out 36 copies of the Book of Mormon, it was great! There are a few potential teaching opportunities that we have been pursuing and hopefully we will be able to teach some of them in the coming week.

We also met a nice lady named Jana who was baptized many years ago and went to church for about a year and then stopped going for whatever reason. So she invited us to come and talk to her later that evening and she told us about herself and she now doesn't believe in God. She is a philosophy major so we had an interesting conversation about God to say the least haha.

Anyways I am excited to serve here and get to know the ward and work hard! I really am hoping I will finish off in this area. Love you all and thank you for all the support and love.

Elder Morgan

Week 87: 20 Months!!!

April 9, 2018

I'm getting transferred! I will be going to Park Meadows Ward in Castle Rock! I haven't served in Castle Rock yet, but am really excited. Castle Rock is the most affluent part of our mission and I hear a lot of good things about it! Park Meadows Ward is the northern-most area in the mission, it is really close to Denver. I am so excited because it is a biking area too! Anyways more to come on the area and my new companion next week.

This was an awesome week, I will be sad to leave Falcon! Elder McCombs is the only one of us staying, Elder Yesilonis is going down to Canon City 2nd ward, my first area! He will love it down there.

One highlight of this week was going over to Joe and Joan's house. We do service at a food pantry with them and they invited us over to go on a quick hike (they like in a real pretty area), eat dinner and play some pool. It was so fun and they are so cool! We talked a lot about religion and they asked a lot of questions about what we believe. We gave them a Book of Mormon and they will hopefully be able to start teaching them.

Also this week it was really cool because I really was inspired by President Nelson's talk to learn how to receive revelation. He asked, what knowledge do you lack? And then talked about how the Holy Ghost can help you to gain that knowledge. So I asked, what do I need to do differently to find some more people to teach in prayer and felt like I should look through the records of people previously taught (which I have done 2 time before). I found one that said that Jose had been taught about a year ago and I had never found that one before. So we went and stopped by that afternoon and he told us to come back the next day and we taught him an awesome lesson! That was a cool experience for me and definitely strengthened my testimony of prophets.

Anyways, it was a great week to end on for Falcon and I will miss it here! Hope everyone has a wonderful week and keeps the commandments!

Week 86: Happy Easter!

April 2, 2018

Wow, what a week! It has been a great week and I have loved serving here in Falcon so far. General Conference this week was so amazing and inspiring, it was great to here from a prophet of God. We will find out about transfers this week, I am anxious to see what happens because any of my companionship could leave or stay.

To start off the week we had a great lesson with a lady who hasn't been to church in quite a while but is so nice. They have 28 horses! And they just roam around the front yard so it is pretty cool. We taught her about the Plan of Salvation and that was a great lesson to share with her.

We also found a really cool guy that seems pretty interested in our neighborhood. We walked up and he asked if we were his neighbors and then said he was interested in learning more about the Book of Mormon and things, super cool!

We went to the Wilkes for the Saturday sessions and Sunday morning session and they fed us lunch and then breakfast the next day. They are an older couple with no kids and are super cool! Then we went to the Priesthood Session at the Church. Sunday afternoon, we were invited to go to a family in the Black Forests area and that was awesome, they were way funny. For Easter dinner, we had ham and funeral potatoes and green beans, it was good! A bunch of families have given us Easter baskets so we have a ton of candy

A family that gave us an Easter basket. We have so much candy at our house haha!
General Conference was just awesome, we watched it at a couple really great member's houses. I was so excited whenever President Nelson spoke, he is so cool. I definitely gained a testimony that he is a prophet of God and is so inspired. The new changes were pretty surprising as well and  temples in India and Russia, crazy!

Well hope everyone has a wonderful week and follows the prophets counsel! Love you all! And Happy Easter!
