Week 15: Happy Thanksgiving & Transferred to Canon City 1st Ward

November 21, 2016

What an awesome week! I am having a blast with Elder Coverly and due to a last minute change by President Rehm, we are serving in 1st ward instead of 2nd! It is such a fun area, the people are so nice and the members are great! We don't have a car, so being in a biking only area was definitely a change. I love biking though and it is perfect weather for it right now.

Elder Coverly and Jonah

This last pday was so cool. We went to Bishop's Castle which is this huge castle that a man made by hand! The architecture is a questionably secure and it is super tall but that made it even more awesome!

Jonah's "Mission Mom" which is the sister who has been out the longest in your first district

It said that I am now in 1st ward! Pres made a last minute change and I have been loving it! Elder Coverly is great, we get along really well. The work is going well in 1st ward, we have one with a baptismal date and quite enough to keep us busy. For thanksgiving we get to watch a pg movie! We are then going over to a couple members houses for food. We have had one cold and windy day but for the most part it is stil;l 60-70's. Serving in 1st ward had been great. We have Kyle with a baptismal date right now but he is really struggling to make it to church! It was really convenient because I started teaching Kyle in 2nd ward and then right around when we were covering both wards, he moved into 1st ward. I'm happy to still be able to teach him.

Elder Coverly is from Idaho and is a really funny farm boy. We are having a blast working in this area. We work with a lot of less active and part member families in this ward. I love the people we are working with but sometimes I just get frustrated because they are not making the right choices. I guess that's how Heavenly Father feels when we don't use our agency wisely.

We saw some fantastic miracles this week. The first night we were together in 1st ward, we were biking home and saw this guy walking on the sidewalk. We just rode on by but the spirit prompted me to turn around and go talk to him so we did. It turned out that he was a really inactive member and wants to come back! We set up an appointment with him and then when we showed up, we taught him and his nonmember brother the restoration. He said he really wanted to come back to church and his brother is now taking the lessons! Super cool.

There are also just some really kind people here. We started talking to this homeless lady at the library and taught her a lesson. After the lesson she bought us some hot chocolate which really humbled me because she is homeless and we are meeting her again to have another lesson! We were also able to do service for a lady in the ward and the following Sunday she gave us blankets that she had made! It was pretty amazing to meet so many kind people this week.

Anyways hopefully everyone has a great week and a happy thanksgiving!

Love,
Elder Morgan
